Come and find out more about the Hawkesbury EarthCare Centre at UWS Hawkesbury this Men’s Health Week!
To celebrate Men’s Health Week, the Hawkesbury EarthCare Centre is holding its Men’s Health Week Open Day on Tuesday 12th June. All staff, students and the community are welcome! Bring your kids and your partner and find out more about healthful living and personal sustainability.
- 9am onwards – gardens open for self-guided walks
- 10am – Ling Halbert will run a special light exercises session. It’s the perfect environment for a refreshing start to the day.
- 11am – Take a tour of the garden, the house and the old dairy. Find out about the history of the gardens and the principles behind sustainable food, energy and environments and how so many of the design principles contribute to personal health as well as reducing utility costs in your home.
- 11.45am – horticulture and wellbeing go hand in hand. Karen Gray will run a special horti-therapy session, showing you how you can use the therapeutic principles to fell fitter, stronger and happier every day through interaction with plants.
- 12.30pm – Join us for lunch at the gardens
- 1.30pm – the University of the Third Age will hold a garden making session, showing you how you can use even a small space to produce healthy fruits, vegetables and herbs.
- 2.30pm – find out about beer and wine-making! Did you know the oldest sample of wine was found in clay jars near Shiraz in Iran and was dated at over 7000 years old! Find out about the ancient and not-so-ancient use of grains and grapes to ferment into beers and wines at our workshop.
- 3pm – take a tour of the gardens and find out about sustainability initiatives at the University of Western Sydney. UWS is enormously proactive in sustainability and has made a significant investment in reducing energy, water and resource use across its six campuses. Find out about some of the ways that the university is encouraging staff and students to adopt sustainability for better health and wellbeing.
