A Sampling of Activities for Men’s Health Month and Anytime During the Year.

Our partners have developed and implemented creative awareness activities for men, boys, and families to use anytime during the year, and during Men’s Health Month and Men’s Health Week.

We coordinate dozens of corporate, government, religious, and fraternal outreach activities across the country.

Many federal, state, and local government websites provide information about Men’s Health Month. Most major broadcast news organizations carry stories about men’s health and interview experts in the field. Print media coverage includes numerous newspapers across the country.

A sampling of activities from past years follows.

Governors, Mayors, and leaders of Native American communities declare Men’s Health Month in their jurisdictions.

Men’s Health Network (MHN) hosts the annual Congressional Health event on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Partners for this event have included the Dean and Betty Gallo Prostate Cancer Center, the Oncology Nursing Society; GW Cancer Institute, National Institute of Mental Health, Agency for Healthcare Policy and Research, Office of Women’s Health, and many, many others.

An international Medical Fellowship and Men’s Health Network partner to produce men’s health brochures for worldwide use.

John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Men’s Health Month team up to promote Meatless Monday, a national health campaign to help Americans prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer – four of the leading causes of death in America.

Men’s Health Month teams with the National Institute of Mental Health to raise awareness about the issue of depression among men and boys.

San Diego Black Health Associates in cooperation with Men’s Health Month announced their “Steppin’ to Health” project designed to encourage men to get a check-up.

The Cornell Medical Student SNMA (Student National Medical Association) chapter hosted a community health fair in New York that features various brochures to promote men’s health awareness for NMHW.

Gannett, Inc. teamed with Men’s Health Network medical advisors to broadcast a Q & A health show from the McLean, VA headquarters to their 181 locations and 45,000 employees.

Parkland Health & Hospital System hosted the annual Men’s Health Conference in Dallas, Texas titled Tune Up the Whole Man: Mind-Body-Spirit.

Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, DC hosted their Annual Men’s Health Fair with screening for prostate cancer, blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney, liver, heart, and thyroid issues.

A Rolls Royce Health Fair in Indiana featured men’s health.

Dr. Jean Bonhomme of the National Black Men’s Health Network and men’s health were the focus of Grand Rounds at the Bayfront Medical Center in Florida.

Wachovia distributed health information from Men’s Health Network to all the employees of its national call center in Oregon.

The Maine Municipal Assn provided a speaker and distributed flyers pertaining to men’s health.

A Harley Davidson plant in Pennsylvania offered men’s health screenings with Men’s Health Network.

A Washington, DC 3k race began at the Jefferson Memorial in celebration of NMHW.

The Congregational Ministry for Health and Wellness in Pittsburg, KS planned activities at various community churches.

Duke University held a 1-day Men’s Health Conference.

Alabama Health Institute, Project HELP-MRC, and NBLIC2-ALA hosted a conference in Birmingham: “For Men Only : An Inter-generational Approach to Reduce Disparities”.

CHAMPS (Community Health and Men’s Promotion Summit), an effort in Atlanta to connect men to the health care system, announced that free screenings were offered later in the year at the Atlanta Civic Center. Over 1,000 men participate each year.

A John Deere plant in Wisconsin emphasized men’s health.

University of Michigan-Flint hosted “Freedom from Health Disparities” with a section dedicated to Men’s Health Week.

Tanner Medical Center in Villa Rice, GA offered health fair screenings which included blood pressure, PSA, vision, body composition and other screenings.

The Mt. Zion Community Development Center in Highland Hills, OH hosted a Health and Wellness expo with health information and screenings.

Sullivan County Regional Health Department in Kingsport, TN celebrated Men’s Health Month by hosting a “Free Men’s Health Check-Up Day” event in their Kingsport office. This includes displays on men’s health issues and free screenings.

Men’s health was featured at a Ford Assembly plant Health Fair in Michigan.

Pinellas County, FL Health Department hosted a seminar titled “Involving Men in Family Planning”. The Department also provided health screenings at a Softball Tournament and Home Run Derby, and offers health screenings at seven different locations throughout the county.

The Marine Corps conducted a conference on testicular cancer for 3,000 individuals in the military at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA.

Heidepriem & Mager of Washington, DC distributed 2,500 blue bracelets to promote prostate cancer awareness.

The Family Planning Assn of Maine had a table at the University of Maine – Augusta health fair and provided discounted rates for men to come to the clinic during Men’s Health Month.

The Graham Group of Cleveland, TN set up tables in their lobby and distributed “Get It Checked” brochures from Men’s Health Network.

Hy-Vee and Drug Town pharmacies in Cedar Rapids, IA distributed “Get It Checked!” brochures from Men’s Health Network to customers.

Millington Chevrolet in Millington, TN sponsored “Fabulous Fathers’ Day Friday.”. This event included free blood pressure checks, tips on healthy eating, family safety tips, a workshop emphasizing the important of regular check ups, and a kids workshop.

The GM Metal Center featured men’s health at a corporate health fair in Indiana.

The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging provided an information session on prostate health, colorectal health, osteoporosis, and erectile dysfunction.

The Near North Health Service Corporation in Chicago, IL held a week long event at each of its health centers that offers screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, and prostate.

In Southeast Elementary School in Valdosta, Georgia there was PSA testing, smoking cessation tables, cholesterol screening, blood pressure screening, hepatitis screenings and a class for men.

A Harley Davidson plant offered screenings for PSA, cholesterol, blood pressure, and body fat screenings.

A state Medical Association, Men’s Health Committee, made a presentation to the state’s HHS employees titled “Men’s Health, Life or Death”.

INTEGRIS hosted the Annual Men’s Health Fair at State University in Oklahoma City. This included free health screenings and over 40 health, wellness, sports, and recreation vendors.

A large law firm in Houston distributed information on men’s health to their employees including statistics; scheduling of health exams; information on male menopause; male cancers, etc. They also scheduled a doctor to come in and talk to the men about their health.

Employee Health Services in Boston, MA distributed educational information from Men’s Health Network in recognition of NMHW.

The Louisville Senior Center in Kentucky promoted prostate awareness in honor of men’s health week.

A Baptist Church in New Orleans, LA offered free vision screening, and screening for cholesterol, glucose, and blood pressure. They also held seminars on colorectal cancer, cardiovascular disease, renal disease, and risks related to tobacco use.

Roper Saint Francis Health Care in Moncks Corner, SC posted fliers and distributed brochures in order to heighten awareness of Men’s health issues.

Edwards Air Force Base in California held a Men’s Health Fair for all military, civilian employees and their families, friends and guests. The fair included blood pressure and cholesterol screening, exercise and running demonstrations, an Ask-a-Doc booth, representatives from Life Skills and Family Advocacy to teach the men about sexual assault, drug demand programs, Family Practice Providers speaking on issues such as sleep apnea, hypertension, skin cancer and prevention, as well as representatives from dental, healthcare, and pharmaceutical profession.

The Vermont Country Store celebrated men’s health by posting information and handing out brochures.

The Northampton County Health Department sponsored a health fair titled “Tune Up the Whole Man” which included free blood pressure, vision, hearing, and kidney screening as well as PSA testing.

The Family Planning Association of Maine set up a table at the University of Maine – Augusta health fair and provided discounted rates for men to come to the clinic during Men’s Health Week.

The Graham Group of Cleveland, TN set up different tables out front in the lobby, and distributed 200 ‘Get It Checked’ brochures.

Pharmacies in Cedar Rapids, IA distributed “Get It Checked!” fliers from Men’s Health Network to customers.

The Community Foundation of Roswell, GA hosted a health fair with over 200 visitors.

In Denver, CO, the Federal Occupational Health distributed brochures for National Men’s Health Week at a health fair.

The Marine Corps conducted a conference on testicular cancer for 2,500-3,000 individuals in the military at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA.

The Charles Houston Recreation Center in Alexandria, VA planed a health fair.

The Office of Hearings & Appeals in Falls Church, VA announced a Wellness Health Fair in the coming months.

A Baptist Church of Christ in Brooklyn, NY organized a health fair that featured speakers on rectal, prostate, breast, and colon cancer.

Emmanuel AME Church in Alabama hosted a health fair in for the surrounding community.

A university division of nursing in Nacogdoches, TX organized a health fair on campus. They distributed brochures on men’s health awareness.

In Mountain City, TN there were health screenings for PSA, blood sugar, BMI and health information.

There were screenings and seminars at the Men’s Health Conference in Dallas, Texas.

There were PSA testing, smoking cessation tables, cholesterol and hepatitis screenings at Walnut Square Mall in Dalton, GA.

The San Diego Black Health Associates placed an article on Men’s Health Week in 2 local newspapers in recognition of Men’s Health Month.

The Bruno-Smithfield Community Health Center in Birmingham, AL held a conference addressing different risk factors. They also featured screenings for prostate problems, lipids, diabetes, HIV, body composition, vision, and hypertension. Presenters included health care providers and other health experts.

A large resort in Grapevine, TX used various brochures and literature to develop a bulletin board to inform guests of Men’s Health Month.

In Kingsport, TN, the Sullivan County Regional Health Department celebrated Men’s Health Month by hosting a “Free Men’s Health Check-Up Day” event. Free health screenings were offered to participants regardless of income or insurance status. There were also displays addressing men’s health issues.

An Indianapolis Cancer Center sponsored the Dads Day 5 K Race Against Prostate Cancer. This includes a 5K run/walk as well as a Dads and kid .7K run. There were also free PSA blood tests.

A Missionary Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA produced an event which included information on hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, prostate cancer, colon cancer, and rectal cancer.

A medical center in Carrollton held men’s health screenings including PSA tests, blood pressure, vision screening and depression screening.

A hospital district in Fort Lauderdale, FL offered free prostate screening test to all men who are qualified: Men 50 years and over, African American men 40 years and over.

A Community Center in Augusta, GA held an event that screened men for body mass index, blood pressure, vision screening, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, height, weight, and cholesterol testing.

A shopping mall in Chattanooga, TN held a health fair including lectures on men’s health topics.

A shopping mall in Dublin, GA offered men’s health screenings. They discussed nutrition, BMI’s, weight, DAAPA (Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention) and chronic disease prevention.

A K-Mart in Marietta, GA offered Men’s Health Week Screenings which include PSA testing, smoking cessation tables, cholesterol screenings and hepatitis screenings.

A major Dealer Services Medical Department in Hoffman Estates, IL held a Men’s Health booth at their Health Fair.

A Health Center in Chicago, IL sponsored an entire week featuring Men’s Health.

The American Heart Association sponsored a Men’s Health Fair along with a DC Baptist Church, the American Kidney Fund, the American Cancer Society, MOTTEP, Howard University Cancer Center, the American Lung Association, DC Healthy Families, DC Department of Health, and the Fit Solution. The theme of the fair was Learn and Live. They offered free screenings for diabetes, heart disease, kidney, prostate, HIV, hypertension, and blood pressure. They also offered a heart healthy lunch, a cooking demo, and a fitness demo.

Baptist Health of South Florida held a health fair entitled “Man Power: Look Good, Feel Great” at the Clarke Education Center. The fair provided free screenings, and featured a variety of physicians, dieticians, and other health professionals.

Gold’s Gym in New York City partnered with a connecting medical facility to provide various types of health screenings for its members.

In Baltimore, MD, The Johns Hopkins University put up signs and passed out flyers in order to raise awareness for men’s health issues.

A national corporate headquarters in Atlanta featured a “lunch and learn” and provided a screening of its corporate employees.

The Georgia Commission on Men’s Health and the Men’s Health Network co-hosted a seminar on outreach to men for city and county public health departments.

Columbia Union College in Tacoma Park, MD celebrated Men’s Health Week with awareness events.

The U. of Michigan had a week-long outreach program at their Urban Health and Wellness Center.

National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer II in Memphis, Tennessee held an event for men concerning cancer, diabetes, the heart, and general men’s health information.

A car manufacturer distributed men’s health information among its various plants in Michigan.

The Jewish Federation in Chicago distributed men’s health information.

Pinellas County Health Department in Florida hosted several men’s health events.

Castle Rock Recreation Center in Colorado provided a Men’s Health Month bulletin board.

A large insurer in California distributed health brochures to its subscribers.

Infirmary Health Systems, Alabama, provided daily blood pressure screenings and distributed brochures.

A fire department in Mississippi, provided screening, stress management, and healthy eating programs for firemen.

A US Army base in Michigan distributed health brochures.

A urology clinic in Charleston, South Carolina distributed health brochures to its patient list for Father’s Day.

A software development company in Georgia distributed health flyers to its employees.

The Los Angeles Free Clinic, California, created an awareness display.

A Knights of Columbus chapter in Massachusetts planned a health event for the community.

A public library in Washington State distributed health education materials.

Phoebe Putney Health System in Georgia offered free screenings to the minority community.

Los Alamos National Labs in New Mexico provided health education brochures for its employees.

A church in Harahan, Louisiana provided a program on depression, prostate cancer and other health issues.

A Medical and Mental Health Center in Brooklyn, New York presented a free community health screening with celebrity speakers.

Soul Vegetarian Restaurant from Chicago, Illinois presented on the local TV channel “Keys to Health and Life Everlasting”.

A Health Care Services/HIV Programs service in Austin, Texas held a workshop for HIV/AIDS, prostate cancer, and diabetes.

The Tennessee Department of Health-West TN Region created an awareness campaign.

A County Health Department in Florida offered free health screenings aimed toward the Haitian, African-American, and Hispanic communities.

A Pharmacy West in West Lafayette and a pharmacy in Toronto, Indiana distributed men’s health information.

Dean St. Maries Health in Madison, Wisconsin held a health fair to extend community outreach.

Near North Health Services in Chicago, Illinois celebrated by offering free medical screenings and physical examinations.

Catahoula Parish Hospital in Louisiana offered physician exams, glucose, PSA, and colon kit testers and distributed information.

A major hospital in Roslyn, New York provided men’s health information to their employees.

ADP in Hoffman Estates, Illinois displayed a bulletin board and had Lunch and Learns. Peach Tree Center in Atlanta, Georgia participated in Men’s Health Month and had doctors present information at their events.

Wellness Institute of America had workshops, bulletin boards, and stop-by tables for the employees at the Chryslers Chelsea Proving Grounds in Michigan.

A health and fitness center in Connecticut distributed information concerning the roles of women in men’s health.

A church in South Carolina, provided health information to their fellow church members.

Peoples’ Clinic in Spokane, WA celebrated Men’s Health Month by promoting men’s health awareness.

A Medical Clinic in Ingleside Texas displayed a bulletin board.

Church Health Ministry Team in Kansas City, Missouri displayed information at their church during the month of June.

BA Ballou in East Providence, Rhode Island provided information to their employees.

Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC had an informational table and bulletin board.

A Chrysler plant celebrated Men’s Health Month with their employees.

A Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee focused on men’s health during the month of June.

La Guardia Community College in New York made an informational bulletin board.

A Church of God in Durand, Michigan celebrated Men’s Health Week by distributing health brochures.

A parish nurse in Minnesota published a church newsletter focusing on Men’s Health Month.

Prevention on Wheels in Staten Island, New York distributed educational materials and provided screenings.

General Motors Acceptance Insurance Corporation in Winston Salem, North Carolina promoted Men’s Health Month.

Health Right in Washington, DC distributed information and provided health fairs throughout the month of June.

An Episcopal church in Silver Springs, Maryland celebrated men’s health on Father’s Day.

KAME Wellness Center in Keokuk, Iowa posted information entitled “Real Men Care” for the entire month of June and held a forum about men’s health.

Johns Hopkins Commonwealth of Physicians in Baltimore, Maryland distributed information.

An occupational Nurse in Gaylord, Texas distributed information.

A Florida County Health Department conducted an awareness campaign.

University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas held a series of free screenings.

A public health department of Birmingham, Alabama promoted National Men’s Health Week.

A Regional Hospital in Juneau, Alaska provided an informational table in the gallery of the hospital.

IMC Health Care in Orlando, Florida distributed information to thirteen states ranging from Arizona to New York to Georgia.

A Lutheran Church in Rockaway, New Jersey featured an article about men’s health awareness while St. Clair’s Hospital held screenings for the town.

Makah Health Services Department in Neah Bay, Washington held the first men’s health fair and had speakers, screenings, and informational tables.

Heal Program in Lexington, Kentucky displayed “Time Out for Men’s Health” for their monthly health bulletin.

Maine Municipal Association gave health packets to all male employees.

Ohio State University Department of Physical Facilities provided the men’s health checklist in their June newsletter.

A Methodist Church in New Smyrna Beach, Florida produced a health fair.

Pinellas County participated in Florida Men’s Health Week that involved a softball tournament, distribution of information, health fairs, and men’s health promotion within six health department locations.

A senior citizens association in Delta, Colorado provided information to their region that serves over six counties.

Plainville Senior Center in Plainville, Connecticut distributed health education materials.

Wyndham Falls Estates in Groten, Connecticut held a group presentation.

St. James Episcopal in Pewee Valley, Kentucky participated in Men’s Health Month by distributing health information.

Bad Hair Day styling salon in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware distributed brochures about men’s health.

A student at Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington set up a men’s health exhibit.

C.L. Brumback Health Center of Palm Beach County Health Department in Florida celebrated Men’s Health Week by providing educational information.

Institute on Aging in San Francisco, California conducted BPH, diabetes, and cholesterol screenings and provided a speaker to discuss prostate, colon, and STD issues for men, and hundreds of other events across the country.
