NEWTOWN BOROUGH – The Newtown Borough Council on Wednesday night approved the first ever “Dash For Joe” to be held Sunday, June 17 from noon to 2 p.m. along Court Street.

The event, a fundraiser to benefit local and national prostate cancer research, will step off at the Newtown Friends Meeting, 219 Court Street, and dash north on Court Street to Washington Avenue. At Washington, it will turn around and head back to the meetinghouse.

The first dash, for children ages 5 to 12, begins at 1 p.m. followed by an adult female dash at 1:30 p.m., an adult male dash at 1:40 p.m. and a father/child (ages 3 to 12) hand-holding final race at 2 p.m.

The organizers, said Mayor Dennis O’Brien, have requested and will pay for an additional police officer for the event.

The cost to enter the race is $20 (early bird special) or $25 on the day of the race. Participants will receive a t-shirt and be treated to refreshments.

Checks can be mailed to 976 Washington Crossing Road, Newtown 18940. Checks should be written to Love Thy Neighbor charity to be deposited in a charity account for donations.
